Overdyeing

Clothing can be overdyed if they have faded in color by making your own natural dyes or using dye kits. Overdyeing with natural dyes uses the same process as the first dye turn, except for the added planning stage when layering on a different color. When overdyeing clothing, you don’t have to use a mordant again. You can overdye with the same shade or layer on a new shade. This can bring depth to the tones or be used to disguise stains.

Food scraps such as avocados and black tea can be used for dyeing clothing. You can also use foraged plants such as woad or gallnuts from oak trees. You can read more about natural dye sources and the natural dyeing processes on our production page
