About our Swimwear
Our swimwear uses elastane that is made with protected spandex designed for durability, to retain shape and to resist damage caused by UV rays and chlorine. The fabrics we use come in different percentages of elastane, which you can see on the product pages. The recycled polyamide is made of discarded fishing nets, carpets and fabrics, and the fabric can be recycled again. The process of making recycled fabrics requires, firstly, the material to be sorted into clothing that can be reused and clothing that is too damaged to be reused and is therefore recycled. Clothing is then sorted based on fiber content and color. This process is labor-intensive, which is why only less than 1% of clothing ends up being recycled into new materials. It is important for us to support this system to grow and become more widespread. Making recycled fabric uses less energy, dye, and water than virgin materials. It also reduces the amount of fabric going into landfill and keeps materials in circulation for longer. Recycled polyamide has all the good qualities of virgin fibers with a reduced environmental impact. This is why it is one of the most recycled fibers.
Our swimwear designs are based on our underwear group, including the Nida, Heart, Mississippi and Bell styles. All our swimwear has elastic trims, is lined, and a lot of it is made of our own deadstock material, leftover from previous seasons. There is always 10-30% of the fabric that is cut away and discarded during the cutting process. These leftover materials are not damaged in any way but are too small for full-scale production. These fabrics are perfect for making small seasonal drops of swimwear in our colors.
Washing synthetic fibres releases microplastics into the water system, especially during the first washes, but washing the synthetic blend fabrics in a laundry bag that captures the microfibres allows you to dispose of the microfibres properly. You can also use a laundry ball or a washing machine filter to capture the microfibers.
