Black History Month: Celebrating the Contributions and Achievements of African Americans

Black History Month originated as “Negro History Week” in 1926, founded by historian Carter G. Woodson. Woodson chose February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, two important figures in American history who played a significant role in the abolition of slavery.
