About our Production in Portugal
We have worked with Debora in Portugal since the beginning of Baserange. She is our agent, and it's through her and the people at the factories that we develop and create pieces like our underwear, tees, sweatshirts, shirting, denim, and canvas groups. In the factories we work with near Porto, most people have worked since the beginning. They recycle all fabric scraps and use energy that comes from renewable sources. These factories mostly work with suppliers from the area in northern Portugal that they have close relationships with. These relationships are vital to the development of our garments but also to our outlook on working sustainably together. It's through our conversations that we find solutions and wonder together. The agency we work with in Portugal is a family business. Debora and her mother Maria work closely with the local factories and with the clients to communicate plans and to solve any issues that might come up during production. Debora grew up at the company, helping with fabric swatches. You can read more about their work in our journal.
Production at its core is about relationships with people and the environment. It is about the time we give each other to understand what we are building and the resources we are using. We see production as an intimate relationship – we are parts of an ecosystem where we work together and learn from each other. The trust and conversations we have are what build our collections. We work with small family-run factories and build durable, trust-based relationships throughout the supply chain. It is our responsibility to make things in a conscious way, understanding the impact each stage of the production process has on the environment and the people making it. We constantly go through our supply chain to see how we can improve sustainability at all levels.
